Dr. Edward Morse will be a keynote speaker at the CIRP Conference on Computer Aided Tolerancing (CAT), which will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden on May 18-20th, 2016.
His presentation will be on the topic of QIF, and is titled: “Interoperability: Linking Design and Tolerancing with Metrology“.
On October 30, 2014 the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved QIF v 2.0 (Quality Information Framework, version 2.0) as an American National Standard. Subsequently in early 2016 QIF version 2.1 was approved. This paper describes how the QIF standard models the information necessary for quality workflow across the full metrology enterprise. After a brief description of the XML ‘language’ used in the standard, this talk reports on how the standard enables information exchange among four major activities in the metrology enterprise (product definition; measurement planning; measurement execution; and the analysis and reporting of the quality data).

The 2015 QIF Summit in the Dallas area was a great success. QIF version 2.1 was approved by DMSC members and will be submitted to ANSI for official publishing.
The symposium featured a number of highly engaging presentations from members of the QIF community. A ZIP file containing all the presentations can be downloaded here (53 MB). Presentations were given from individuals representing a wide variety of organizations, including:
- Honeywell FM&T
- Manufacturing Technology Centre
- Northrop Grumman
- Origin International
- University of North Carolina, Charlotte
Dr. Jennifer Wallace from the Manufacturing Technology Centre was given the award for the 2015 QIF Symposium Best Presentation. Her presentation slides can be found here.
Many thanks to all who attended, and see you next year!
September 28 – Oct 1, 2015 Phoenix, AZ
GPDIS is organized by The Boeing Company, Northrop Grumman Corporation, Parker Aerospace and Elysium Inc. The Global Product Data Interoperability Summit (GPDIS) is the communications hub for industry principals to foster knowledge through the exchange of ideas, solutions, and methods. It also builds consensus for tool and process standards in the industry.
At this event, Capvidia will demonstrate interoperability solutions for transferring 3D MBD data between CAD, CAM and CMM systems. Capvidia’s North American Director, Mr. Lyle Fischer will present a technology discussion on “The New QIF Standard: What Is It, and Why is it Important to my Organization”. The presentation will describe the new ANSI QIF 2.0 Standard and illustrate how it enables automatic transfer of MBD data to metrology systems. The presentation will include important information such as: How to streamline the creation of First Article Inspection reports using MBD data and how to derive “easy-to-interpret” inspection features (via Capvidia’s automatic analysis of MBD data and export to an Excel™ spreadsheet).
