SUMMARY:Model-Based Characteristic Working Group
DESCRIPTION:Model-Based Characteristics Working Group\nThe Model-Based Characteristics Working Group launched June 2020 and conducts twice monthly meetings for the purpose of developing a draft proposal for a new ANSI standard for Model-Based Characteristics: Nomenclature\, Definitions\, Symbols\, and Practice. \nChair: Mark Neilson\, TechAzul\nCo-Chair: Curtis Brown\, Honeywell FM&T / DMSC President \nWe encourage participation in this WG by DMSC Members as there is still plenty of time for meaningful contribution before the final draft is submitted to the DMSC Quality Measurement Standards Committee. Once submitted to ANSI\, review and approval can take many months before a new standard results (targeted for 2022). \nSubscribe to receive DMSC News and Announcements for further updates on the MBC WG activities. \nFor Information on DMSC Membership Opportunities\, click here or contact Executive Director\, Mark Thomas. \nMore Details on this DMSC Working Group – Click Here \nMeeting Link shared exclusively with Working Group Participants & DMSC Members

SUMMARY:Next Version QIF Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Tom Kramer will lead the Digital Metrology Standards Consortium’s efforts to update the Quality Information Framework standard. We are currently in Phase 1. \nPhase 1 of the project will identify what QIF issues/enhancements could be put into a “minor” QIF release\, and what upgrades would have to wait for a “major” QIF release. From that analysis a determination would be made as to whether a minor (short term) or a major (longer term) release is practical for DMSC to undertake as Phase 2 of the project. \nTom will host meetings every two weeks through November 2022. \n\nNext Version QIF Meeting\nTue\, June 14\, 2022 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM (EDT) \nPlease join my meeting from your computer\, tablet or smartphone. \nhttps://meet.goto.com/731947957 \nYou can also dial in using your phone.\n(For supported devices\, tap a one-touch number below to join instantly.) \nUnited States: +1 (571) 317-3122\n– One-touch: tel:+15713173122\,\,731947957# \nAccess Code: 731-947-957 \n\nAll interested parties are welcome and encouraged to participate. \nPlease contact DMSC Executive Director Mark Thomas for more information on how to participate in these meetings: mark.thomas@qifstandards.org.

SUMMARY:QIF Tech Series Coffee Chat
DESCRIPTION:Presentation Topic:\nLearn How to Use the Bill of Characteristics (BoC)\nas Your Digital Twin Catalyst\n\nPresented by:\nJennifer Herron\, Action Engineering\n\n\nWatch Now: Click Here\n\n  \n\nAbstract\nCatalyze the digital thread with feedback loops made possible by MBD plus QIF to establish an interoperable and automatable Bill of Characteristics (BoC). The Quality Information Framework Version 3.0 defines the BoC as a list of all the characteristics applied to a product. If you work hard to create good GD&T as 3D annotations that robustly enable your producers the flexibility to fabricate your products while still maintaining your design requirements\, then that good data demands good interoperability. Model-Based Definition (MBD) is 3D CAD data that is digitally authored to be used automatically by manufacturing and quality engineers and planners to speed up fabrication and inspection in a highly accurate way. You must have the part built the right way while keeping costs low. This is what GD&T was invented for\, and now MBD combined with QIF makes that process digital; speeding up time to market and decreasing quality escapes. \nThis is very cool technology\, and no doubt saves time and money during production\, but what about your people? There is a benefit. These 3D data transformation techniques increase communication between typically siloed departments\, such as Engineering and Quality. Studies show that companies and organizations that communicate effectively are 4.5x more likely to retain the best employees. This is big! Implement technology while attracting and retaining the best talent. \nJennifer Herron\, CEO of the leading consulting firm for 3D data transformations presents pragmatic and feasible solutions using today’s technology to two use cases:\n1. Automated BoC generation and interoperability\n2. Automating engineering changes while maintaining traceability \nSee a demonstration of authoring MBD in Creo\, publishing a QIF file\, using QIF (an interoperable format for metrology) to create a BoC\, creating a measurement plan using ZEISS Calypso\, and measuring using ZEISS CMM and METROTOM\, then revise the design\, rinse and repeat. Look at the digital twin artifacts needed to establish the digital thread. The combination of the MBD\, QIF\, and CMM creates digitally persistent characteristics that increase traceability and reduce measurement planning time. The two use cases demonstrated (automated BoC generation and interoperability\, and engineering changes) process helps companies who are dedicated to empowering their employees to be faster and more accurate. \nBenefits to your business are:\n• Increasing product quality by eliminating human error due to manual data re-entry\n• Increasing use\, re-use\, and automation of 3D CAD data\n• Increasing product throughput during First Article Inspection activities\n• Use digital twin techniques to increase employee communications\, thereby increasing employee retention. \nWatch Now: Click Here \n\nJennifer Herron is the CEO of Action Engineering\, a registered Women-Owned Small Business specializing in guiding organizations through their transformation into a Model-Based Enterprise (MBE) using Model-Based Definition (MBD). She serves on the Digital Metrology Standards Consortium (DMSC) Board of Directors\, which is responsible for the development\, maintenance\, and support of the QIF and DMIS standards. Ms. Herron has extensive experience with the hardware design for spaceflight and military systems\, and as such\, is an expert in multiple CAD packages (e.g.\, Creo\, NX\, SOLIDWORKS\, Inventor). She holds a patent for a snake propulsion mechanism and is the author of Re-Use Your CAD: The Model-Based CAD Handbook. Because standards are the lynch-pin to a digital transformation\, she serves on the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) to write standards that empower all industries to do business differently. \nEXPERTISE\nMBD and MBE Solution Architecture\nMBD Pilot Planning\nMBD Modeling Standards and Best Practices\nMulti-CAD MBD Authoring and Publishing\nMulti-CAD MBD and GD&T Coaching\nStrategic MBD and MBE Implementation Coaching\nMBD Supply Chain Readiness Coaching \nCREDENTIALS\nBoard Member\, Digital Metrology Standards Consortium (DMSC)\nCertified Scrum Product Owner®\nCo-Chair\, ASME MBE Standards Committee\nEngineer in Training (EIT)\, Missouri\nCertified SolidWorks Associate\nPatent for Toroidal Propulsion and Steering System (Snake) \n\nThe Digital Metrology Standards Consortium (DMSC) member QIF End Users & Solution Providers present QIF Tech Series topics monthly through November 2022. \nThe webinar series will focus on QIF-centric topics and related subjects related to Digital Manufacturing such as Model-Based Enterprise (MBE)\, Model-Based Definition (MBD)\, GD&T and more. The 20-30 minute presentations may be introductory level or more advanced content\, and are intended to educate a broad variety of QIF implementers or future users. There will be a 15 minute Q & A session after each of the presentations. \nWebinar technical content is provided by both QIF End Users and QIF Solution Providers with the goal of sharing real-life QIF or related implementations by advanced manufacturing operations. \nClick Here for all QIF Tech Series Coffee Chats scheduled for 2022.\nIf you are interested in presenting a QIF implementation case study\, please contact DMSC Executive Director\, Mark Thomas by email.
