As each day brings new supply chain challenges, Model-Based practices must evolve to meet them. The 2025 MBE & QIF Summit was an opportunity to share best practices amongst companies that have embraced standards along their MBE journey. Hosted by two premier standards-focused organizations, NIST and DMSC, the event offered a forum for forward looking companies to build awareness of MBE success stories from the standards community.

This year, nearly 200 participants gathered at MxD in Chicago to share, learn and study new ways to be more efficient in their digital transformation. Although each MBE implementation may be different, many execution issues can be the same. This event was initiated to encourage dialogue within the MBE community to share success stories and innovative solutions to similar problems. The event offered over 30-speaker sessions, each with different ideas that could be applied to a unique MBE problem.

Keynote speaker Christopher Garrett, from the USAF Lifecycle Management Center, evangelized multiple innovative concepts to solve critical process problems in new product development for weapons systems. The commitment to standards is a key element in the Air Force acquisition priority to revolutionize their processes.

The MBE & QIF Summit has established itself as an essential knowledge source for those companies wanting to learn more about how to bring success and efficiency to their MBE journey. Plans for a 2026 event are already underway – don’t miss it!

Recently, DMSC announced the availability of sponsorship opportunities at the upcoming 2025 MBE/QIF Summit. Almost right away, many enthusiastic solution providers from last year’s event jumped on the opportunity and reserved sponsorship slots. A limited number of sponsorship spots are still available.

This premier MBE/QIF event, hosted by NIST, MxD, and DMSC, will be held April 15th– 17th, 2025, at the MxD facility in Chicago. Expect the program schedule to be filled with MBE and QIF subject matter experts from a variety of industries and perspectives. The MTConnect organization will also be participating, adding both speakers and attendees. Due to facility limitations, attendance will be limited to 200 participants, and we anticipate another sold-out event.

Even better than 2024! A major change for 2025 is that we will be sharing attendee information with our sponsors. The attendee registration process will follow best marketing practices, allowing them to ” opt-in ” when they register.

Additionally, the 2025 event will be making slight changes to the presentation schedule to ensure sponsors have plenty of opportunities to converse with attendees. Exhibitor tables will be in close proximity as attendees gather for breaks and receptions.

Previous event sponsors found attendees to be highly focused and made for the highest quality leads. We expect the same for this 2025 event.

Reserve a remaining sponsorship slot today!

DMSC is pleased to announce the return of the highly popular MBE/QIF Summit for 2025. Survey data from 2024 attendees show a high degree of satisfaction by participants. This premier event, hosted by NIST, MxD, and DMSC, will be held April 15th– 17th, 2025, at the MxD facility in Chicago.

Previous sponsors of the event are being given early sponsorship opportunities. DMSC will open availability to potential sponsors on December 2nd. We expect to make slight changes to the presentation schedule to ensure sponsors have plenty of opportunities to converse with attendees.

A major change for 2025 is that we can share attendee information with our sponsors. The registration process will follow best marketing practices, with attendees ” opting in ” when they register.

This year, the Summit presentations will be even more integrated between MBE and QIF throughout the three days. Since one registration fee covers both events, we anticipate most MBE Summit participants will stay on for the QIF Summit. Due to facility limitations, attendance will be limited to 200 participants, and we anticipate another sold-out event.

Also this year, we have created a sponsor program to ensure that sponsors have extended access to the attendees in a relaxed and collegial environment. Tabletop sponsors can choose their table location based on the date they make their sponsorship reservation. Previous event participants were found to be highly focused and made for the highest quality leads. We expect the same for this 2025 event!

Held at MxD (Manufacturing x Digital) headquarters in Chicago, IL, the dual event brought together experts from academia, government, and industry.

The MBE Summit provided a platform for participants to discuss challenges, implementation issues, and lessons learned related to design, manufacturing, quality assurance, and sustainment of products and processes when a Model-Based Enterprise (MBE) approach is used. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Smart Connected Systems Division organized technical content for the MBE Summit

The DMSC is a member-funded, non-profit organization focused on developing and supporting interoperability standards and quality data frameworks for digital metrology in manufacturing. The DMSC’s Quality Information Framework (QIF) standard is at the heart of its mission of interoperability and providing traceability of quality data.

Attendees gave positive feedback on the location and size of the venue, which led to the decision to hold the 2025 edition at MxD Chicago, April 15 – 17. Organizers are also using feedback for suggested topics to set the theme for the 2025 Summit.

Input from our membership is key to developing projects and programs that are relevant to the DMSC and QIF community. As an organization with limited resources, it is essential to deploy our DMSC talent and assets in a manner that provides the most value to the membership.

DMSC president, Curtis Brown (Honeywell), and BoD member, Jennifer Herron (Action Engineering), led an informal brainstorming session to collect ideas and priority interests from the 80 or so session participants who were quite active and animated in presenting their thoughts about the future of DMSC and QIF. Participants shared their ideas via “post-it notes” which were displayed to the group.

Curtis Brown remarked of the effort “We need to be cognizant of the wants and needs of our DMSC membership as we plan for the future.” Jennifer has collected input and will be tabulating the collective results of the post-it note collection of participant ideas and comments. Her work will then be presented to the DMSC BoD as guidance when an updated and refreshed organizational vision is developed.

As success stories evolve, so does the need to share those stories. When companies look back on their success it is easy to see how some of that experience and knowledge would benefit other companies just beginning the MBD and QIF journey.

Over the next few months, there will be several conferences featuring MBD and QIF implementors in a wide variety of industries. The presenters will be industry experts sharing their successes and pitfalls in the implementation journey. Just as they understand the purpose and benefit of sharing their QIF message, you too could have knowledge that could ultimately help companies in the fledgling stage of QIF implementation.

This DMSC newsletter offers a conduit to a QIF-centric audience for you to share your experience. Your wisdom will benefit the overall manufacturing and metrology community, a purpose that fulfills one of the founding missions of DMSC.

If you have an idea or an experience you wish to share, please contact Mark Thomas.
