The development of a QIF Training program has been on the DSMC “to-do” list for over a year. A twice-monthly General Working Group (WG) has been meeting and collecting technical content as part of the curriculum development process. While compiling a broad list of technical content, these WG participants have analyzed the material and determined content appropriate for a Level 1 course. Other more advanced material being considered would be suitable for a future Level 2 course.

In order to accelerate the faster development of the Level 1 class, an additional pair of WG meetings have been added for each month. These new meetings are strictly dedicated to compiling technical content for the Level 1 course. All other issues will be delegated to the General WG meeting, which covers content and business issues.

The current General Working Group (business oriented) is held every other Tuesday at 10am ET.

The new set of WG meetings (on alternate Tuesdays at 9am ET) will be chaired by DMSC member Ray Admire, an experienced QIF practitioner. Nearly the entire Level 1 content list came from input from WG participants. Your input counts!

DMSC welcomes new participants to the WG meeting – please contact Mark Thomas for a calendar invite!

Increasing the availability of QIF Subject Matter Experts (SME) will add exposure and expertise of QIF within the metrology community. The DMSC Board of Directors (BoD) has approved the formation of a new Working Group to pursue development of a formal Training/Certification program.

Development of a multi-tiered training/certification program is a substantial endeavor. The idea is to collaboratively develop an implementation plan using our highly successful Working Group (WG) process. DMSC members and other interested companies are encouraged to join this freshly minted WG.

There are many tasks for the WG to plan, develop, and implement, such as:

Curriculum Development

Marketing the Program

Logistics of the Program
and more

This means that WG members don’t necessarily need to be QIF experts, but rather be able to contribute ideas towards the successful development and execution of the overall plan.

To start, the WG will need to choose a WG Chair and create a WG Charter which will provide guidance for the short- and long-range goals of the program.

Anyone having interest (DMSC membership encouraged, but not required) in being part of this exciting process is welcome to join this new Working Group. If you are interested in participating or want to know more, please contact Mark Thomas, DMSC Executive Director.

With QIF-centric educational opportunities being sparse, the Digital Metrology Standards Consortium sees new training options as key to future widespread adoption of the Quality Information Framework/QIF standard as industry continues its digital transformation.

The DMSC Board of Directors has authorized the formation of this Exploratory Task Group and is looking for a diversified set of participants that can work to develop a plan and provide sufficient perspective to conclude if a formalized program will further DMSC’s QIF goals (in a practical sense).

The DMSC Exploratory Task Group would operate in a similar manner to current DMSC Working Groups, and ultimately report back to the DMSC BoD.

The DMSC expects this Task Group to discuss and determine:
• What DMSC resources would be required to develop a training program?
• What would be the cost for developing and maintaining a QIF training program?
• Who would run the training program (3rd party organizations, etc) and what would the cost be?
• What are the benefits of developing a formalized training program?
• Who would be the target candidates for such a program?
• Would there be sufficient demand for this service to justify the level of effort for development?
• How would such a program be administered?
• Do the existing DMSC resources support the development and administering of such a program?

In short, this Task Group would deliver a fully sketched out training program with a detailed cost/benefit analysis.

All interested parties (including non-DMSC members) are invited to be part of this Task Group. A DMSC Member Chair and/or Co-Chair are yet to be named. Interested parties can expect to see an announced date for an initial meeting, soon. The DMSC expects this task group to begin meeting starting in late Q3 or early Q4 2022.

This effort is blazing new trails for DMSC. Any interested parties should contact DMSC Executive Director Mark Thomas for information on the meeting schedule and next steps: mark.thomas@qifstandards.org
