Who
Attending the event will benefit anyone working in or supporting any industry in the areas of design, manufacturing, or quality such as:
- Design Engineers
- Quality Engineers
- Manufacturing Engineers
- Model-Based Enterprise Leaders
- Process Improvement Visionaries
The emphasis will be on the exchange of data throughout the enterprise using a Model-Based Definition. Medical, aerospace, defense, electronics, automotive, industrial equipment, and product development industries from small to large organizations are represented at this annual event.
MBE Summit
The NIST MBE Summit has brought academia, government, and industry experts together since 2009 to share the challenges, implementation issues, and lessons learned in design, manufacturing, quality assurance, and sustainment of products and processes where a Model-Based approach is used. This includes all aspects of the product lifecycle from design, manufacturing, quality assurance, and sustainment of products, where a digital 3D model acts as the authoritative source of information.
QIF Summit
The DMSC have been gathering those people and organizations interested in developing an open standard to facilitate the seamless movement of a model-based definition and manufacturing quality data. Quality of Information Framework 3.0 is a structured way to achieve that objective. Everyone interested in the standard and those who want to help improve and expand it will have the opportunity to do so at the summit.
The Venue
MxD (Manufacturing x Digital) advances economic prosperity and national security by strengthening U.S. manufacturing competitiveness through technology innovation, workforce development, and cybersecurity preparedness. In partnership with the Department of Defense, they convene an ecosystem to solve critical manufacturing challenges by accelerating digital adoption, empowering a skilled workforce, and modernizing supply chains. MxD is also the National Center for Cybersecurity in Manufacturing as designated by DoD. MxD hosted the 2024 MBE & QIF Summit and, after the success of that event, has offered to host again in 2025.
Present at the Summit
Significant and promising strides toward an MBE have been made, but the growing pains of collaborating in a decentralized environment remain. In 2025, academia, government, and industry experts will join together to examine the following within the context of design, manufacture, and inspection including:
- Digitalization of processes
- Digitization of data
- Workforce development
- Establishing the business case necessary to achieve Model-Based Enterprise objectives
- Updates on standards development

Transportation to and from Airports
Goose Island is located approximately 15 miles from Chicago O’Hare International Airport and 12 miles from Chicago Midway Airport. The Chicago Transportation Authority has affordable transportation from both airports for $5 or less. Their website provides a chart that shows the cost of options getting from the airport to downtown via public transportation as well as taxi/rideshare.
Transportation between Hotels to MxD
A taxi ride from within a 2-3 mile radius of MxD is typically $10-$15, even at peak hours.
Public transportation is not easily accessible from MxD. The closest metro station is about 0.75 miles away.
Rental Car
Chicago is a big city, which means that parking downtown can be costly. If you intend to rent a car, be sure to factor in parking costs.
