QIF (Quality Information Framework) is a standard which supports Digital Thread concepts in engineering applications ranging from product design through manufacturing to quality inspection. Based on XML, the QIF standard contains a Library of XML Schema ensuring both data integrity and data interoperability in Model Based Enterprise implementation.
QIF 3.0 had been designated as an American National Standard (ANSI). In August 2020 this ANSI standard was harvested, approved, and published by the International Standards Organization as the new ISO Standard ISO 23952:2020.
QIF supports Design, Metrology, Manufacturing, and is critical to the Industrial Revolution 4.0. Because it is XML based, QIF can be easily integrated with Web/Internet applications. Unlike other existing standards, there is no competence barrier standing in the way for industry to adopt QIF. It also effectively supports new concepts such as IoT (Internet of Things).
Finally, all discrete manufacturing industries now have a standard platform that ensures quality while minimizing costs and making processes more transparent! The QIF 3.0 Standard is available at no cost via download.
All information models for transporting quality data are derived from common model libraries so that common information modeling components can be reused throughout the entire quality measurement process. As a consequence, the entire process is inherently interoperable.
