The Dimensional Metrology Standards Consortium (DMSC) hosted the 2017 Quality Information Framework/QIF Summit October 3-6, 2017 in Golden Colorado. Our meeting coincided with the 3D Collaboration & Interoperability Congress (also known in the trade as 3D CIC). In 2018, we plan to meet again during the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago, Illinois – so mark your calendars for that event.
While in Colorado in 2017, we had a full schedule including two days of round-table discussions with the QIF Working Groups, a full day of QIF Symposium meetings, and ended with the official DMSC meeting on Friday including a lively panel discussion. It was several days filed with robust conversations, idea and information sharing, and advocating for broadening the implementation of QIF.

At the DMSC Meeting, several decisions were taken around the next release of QIF. Here are the highlights:
Decision #1: The next QIF release will be v3.0 and will include:
- Expansion of measurement workflow use cases supported by QIF
- Improvements to PMI modelling to support common CAD systems annotations like those from SolidWorks, PTC Creo, NX, and CATIA
- Concise measurement point storage
- Increased harmonization with ISO Geometrical Product Specification
- Improved support for metrology software and fitting algorithm specifications
- Improved traceability in statistics, including an option for bulk raw data
- Enhanced support for a comprehensive array of measurement device types in QIF Resources
- Support for measurement resource selection via QIF Rules
- Improved XSLT data integrity checking
Decision #2: Distribute a QIF v3.0 Change Document in 2018.
Note: As of Q1-2018, we project a mid May 2018 release.
