During a recent Industrial Affiliates program visit to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC), DMSC members Jermy Hamilton and Cory Leland took a moment to meet and recognize the first two recipients of a DMSC scholarship.

As a symbol for our gratitude and admiration for the life and legacy of Bailey H. Squier, the DMSC Board of Directors established the Bailey H. Squier DMSC Metrology Memorial Scholarship. Bailey served as Executive Director and co-founder of DMSC from 2005 to 2019. He was a key contributor to the development and success of QIF from the beginning.

In July 2023, DMSC funded the scholarship and the first two 2024/2025 recipients have been selected.

The DMSC mission is to promote Metrology, Mechanical Engineering and industrial standards, so eligible recipients must include those disciplines in their area of study.

In August 2024, UNCC announced Samuel Parsons to be the first scholarship recipient. and in October 2024, Justin Flaherty was identified as the second recipient. Both students are third year Mechanical Engineering students with a concentration in Precision Energy and Metrology.  Justin remarked “…this scholarship will have a noticeable impact on my financial situation and thank you so much for your support of Charlotte and the metrology program.”

Scholarships are a key element in the success of higher education students, and according to Stacie Young, UNCC Senior Director of Donor Relations, over 33,000 scholarship applications to the University were completed.
